Pascha
New Calculation

After considerable study, prayer, and waiting on the Lord, it has become completely clear that The Celtic Episcopal Church must adopt a better way to calculate the date for celebrating the Feast of the Resurrection or Pascha.

Until now, we have simply followed the lead of the Canonical Orthodox Jurisdictions in the determination of the date for Pascha. This practice has been a problem for us in a couple significant ways.

First and foremost, we need to follow the principles given to us in the Bible which demonstrates that Pascha cannot take place before the Jewish Passover.

And, secondly, to adopt the plan used in either the East or the West would be problematical because on several occasions these plans were so different from one another as to make us as a Western church out of step with all other Christian bodies in the United States.

Therefore, we will adopt the method of dating Pascha as the Sunday following the Passover. When Passover is on a Sunday, we will celebrate our Pascha on the following Sunday. Our newly posted Liturgical Calendar institutes this new plan beginning with Pascha 2007.

As time goes along, our Pascha will be different from the other Western churhes only rarely. And, as a note of interest, the Oriental Orthodox Churches have figured this out as well and use the same method as we will now use.

May our Dear Lord Jesus be praised as we continue to serve Him faithfully as directed by the Holy Spirit.
Season of Harvestide
The Celtic Episcopal Church has adopted a new liturgical season for the calendar year. Beginning with the 2nd Sunday after the Exultation of the Cross, this year it will be September 24 and going until the 2nd Sunday before the Feast of the Nativity, this year it will be December 10, we will celebrate the Season of Harvestide. For the readings, go to the Liturgical Calendar, click on the date, and the reference for the Sunday Lectionary will be provided. The Liturgical color for the season of Harvestide will be Burnt Orange.

ORTHODOX STUDY BIBLE - Old Testament Project

We would like to take this opportunity to give you a status report on the Orthodox Study Bible: The Septuagint / Old Testament Project with study notes.

All the participants in the project - translators, study aid authors, editors, and our publisher,Thomas Nelson - are committed to producing an accurate, faithful, and readable Bible, including all of the Books of the Septuagint Old Testament Bible missing in the present day English bibles and Roman Catholic Vulgate.

Special emphasis has been applied to the integrity of the translation, ensuring that these texts are rendered into the most accurate and appropriate English. The study aids and notes have been composed, edited, and revised to convey as best we are able the tradition of the Orthodox Church. The page layout and flow of text has been scrutinized to ensure that even the more mechanical aspects of the book will enhance its readability and usefulness. These attributes - accuracy, faithfulness, and utility - form the cornerstone of our work.

All other aspects of this project have been subordinated to them - including the schedule.

As we write this message, the final pieces of the new Orthodox Study Bible are making their way to the publisher, where they will be formatted, typeset, printed, collated, bound, packaged, and made ready for distribution. For a project of this scope, we anticipate the publication process committed to by Thomas Nelson will take thirteen to fifteen months.

Therefore, we feel confident that the new Orthodox Study Bible will be available for purchase in time for Pascha, 2008.

Book of Services
The Celtic Episcopal Church has been in contact with a publishing company who has experience with the publishing of Liturgical Books in the Orthodox tradition and who has given us the basic facts concerning how we are to proceed with this project, so we are seeking a generous person or persons who would like to contribute to the cost of publishing our Book of Services and Altar Books.
